I'm the 3rd child in a family of four kids. Two older sisters and my younger brother. This pic is of me and my baby bro. He along with my Pop are my very best friends. I grew up knowing my Dad loved me, and for me that was enough. He took every chance he could to teach us a life lesson. You will hear me speak a lot of this man who I'm still blessed to have here with me. I grew up on a street society forgot about. Single family homes, tennis shoes hanging from telephone wires above, makeshift candy stores where little old ladies sold Mexican candy out of their apartments. Oh yes, I saw a lot and learned more. Above all else, Leslie Road in San Diego, CA was very good to us and will forever be sewn into the fabric of my being. Taught me about appreciating life and the importance of focusing on what you have instead what you don't. Counting your blessings and to always have love, hope and above all have faith in life and those you hold near.
As a writer, writing about my experiences is like breathing, effortless and a gift I have found to be one of my greatest blessings. But the "writing about myself" part, not so much. Let's see...
I've been writing since I was in high school. My English teacher Mrs. Adams read my first essay and her notes read "this should be published." My first essay in college received the same response. What I know is … writing is to me what a good work out is to others. It's a place where I go when I need to relieve myself of something. An emotion, a moment I want to remember, a card written to someone where I want to convey all that they mean to me in words, in a few sentences. That's what writing is for me. I'm a writer, a Mom to my teenage son who is way cooler than I ever was, a friend who is always there to listen, and an advisor to all. My Dad said it took my parents 3 days to name me when I was born. And as he was walking out of the hospital with me in his arms, he said he looked down at me and it hit him, Monica! Her name is Monica. And if you look up the meaning of that name, it's "Advisor." And I am, to all who know me.
I write about my experiences. As funny as it may sound, when I first starting publicizing my writing, I was surprised that people really got what I was trying to convey. Now, all these years later, I find it so fulfilling that others connect to what I put on paper. It humbles me and encourages me to see that others really have a connection with my experiences. I realized after a few years that my writing was actually helping people, through their trials and through their experiences. This blog will be everything from daily life, parenting, relationships, love and hate, happiness and grievances, basically everything you know life to be. I hope you connect and give me feedback so I know what's working. My plan has always been to write a book (or two). But with life as busy as it gets, I'm starting out with a few blogs, a children's book, a greeting card line and then eventually my book. Until then, I hope to start a following. In my everyday life, I help people. And if I can reach out to you, and you can connect with what I am saying, I welcome you and thank you for letting me into your world.
